Young Person Therapy

Support for children and young people navigating emotional and life challenges.

Young people face many challenges as they grow and develop. School pressures, friendships, family changes, identity, and emotional difficulties can sometimes feel overwhelming. At times, these experiences may lead to anxiety, low mood, stress, or a feeling of not knowing how to cope.

Young person therapy offers a safe, supportive, and confidential space where children and teenagers can talk openly about what they are experiencing. Having someone outside of family or school who will listen without judgement can help young people better understand their thoughts and feelings.

I offer young person counselling for children and teenagers aged 8 and above, providing a calm and supportive environment where they can explore what is going on for them and begin to develop healthier ways of coping. If you have a child under the age of 8 and would like to discuss support options, please feel free to get in touch.

When Young Person Counselling May Help

As children and teenagers grow, they may experience emotional or social challenges that can sometimes feel difficult to manage on their own. Counselling can provide a safe and supportive space to explore what they are going through.

Young person counselling may be helpful if a child or teenager is experiencing:

  • Anxiety or constant worrying

  • Low mood or sadness

  • School stress or exam pressure

  • Friendship difficulties or bullying

  • Low confidence or self-esteem

  • Parents going through separation or divorce

  • Family changes such as loss or bereavement

  • Anger or difficulty managing emotions

  • Social anxiety or difficulty fitting in

  • Feeling overwhelmed or struggling to cope with emotions

  • Changes in behaviour at home or school

These are just some examples. Every young person’s experience is different, and counselling can offer a supportive space to talk through whatever they may be facing.

How Sessions Work

Young person counselling sessions are structured to provide a consistent and supportive space.

  • Session length: 50 minutes

  • Frequency: weekly

  • Session options:

    ○ Face-to-face counselling in Epsom

    ○ Online counselling via Microsoft Teams

Sessions are adapted to suit the individual young person and provide a safe environment where they can talk openly and feel supported.

Most parents or guardians prefer to book their child’s first session as soon as possible. Others may prefer to arrange a short 10-minute phone call beforehand if they have any initial questions or would like to discuss whether counselling may be helpful.

For online sessions, you can book a session online or contact me directly. If you would like to arrange face-to-face sessions in Epsom, please contact me directly.

How I Work With Young People

My approach to young person counselling focuses on creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental environment where children and teenagers feel comfortable expressing themselves. Building trust is an important part of the process, allowing young people to talk openly about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences at their own pace.

Sessions are tailored to the individual young person and delivered in a way that feels age-appropriate and comfortable. Some young people prefer to talk openly, while others may find it easier to explore their thoughts and feelings through gentle prompts or creative approaches.

Counselling can help young people better understand their emotions, build confidence, and develop healthy ways of coping with the challenges they may be facing.

I understand that seeking counselling for your child can feel like an important decision. An initial conversation by phone or email can help ensure that counselling feels appropriate and supportive for the young person.

While the content of sessions remains private to support the young person’s trust, I will keep parents or guardians informed about overall goals and progress where appropriate. If there are any concerns about safety or risk of harm, this will always be communicated.

How Much Does It Cost?

Session fees are as follows:

  • Online sessions (50 minutes): £55

  • Face-to-face counselling sessions in Epsom (50 minutes): £65

Face-to-face sessions are priced slightly higher to reflect the cost of providing a private counselling room.
